Project Tiger : Corbett Tiger Reserves

The Tiger Project was launched in 1973 in Corbett National Park. There are many animal like elephant, chital, sambar, nilgai, gharial, King Cobra, muntjac, wild boar, hedgehog, common musk shrew, flying fox, Indian Pangolin, and nearly 600 type of birds. The Total area of the Corbett National Park was 324 sq. km. to which 198 sq. km. was added later. In 1991, kalagarh forest division and Ramnagar forest division are include in one area. The area of 798 sq km was added to the Corbett Tiger Reserve.

Flora

Corbett National Park is a very beautiful and a green belt i.e. the flora here. There are many type of tree like Sal, Chir, Anauri and Bakli trees. Many type of Bamboo are also found. Falling leaves of Sal trees make a beautiful seen during summers. A big area of the Corbett also comprises of the grasslands, known as 'Dhikala' and 'Khinanauli'. These grasses are good places to catch up with herds of elephants.

Animals

There are approx 60 type of mammals in the park. Of all the type here, tigers and elephant are main, which attract tourists. There are many type of animal like Leopards, Jungle Cats, Fishing Cats (a rare species), Caracal Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Langur, Rhesus Monkey, Sambar, Pada (Hog Deer), Muntjac Bear (Barking Deer), Cheetah, and Ghoral (Mountain Goat).

Reptiles

There are many number of reptiles also in Jim Corbett National Park. Some of the common reptiles you will see here are Turtles, Cobras, Pythons, Gharials (fish eating crocodiles), Muggers (another species of crocodiles), Monitor Lizards, kraits, Sal forest Tortoise, and Russell's viper.

Birds

Jim Corbett National Park is a home of many species of birds. The area around the Ramganga is a natural habitat of birds. According to a survey there are more than 550 type of birds available in Jim Corbett National Park. A lot of migrant birds can also be seen here. Some type of birds are migrant Gulls, Kalij Pheasants, Grebes, Grey Lags, Herons, Darters, Cormorants, Lapwings, Paradise Flycatchers, Munias, Weaver birds, Eagles, Black throated Payas, Mynas, Kingfishers, Snipes, Harriers, Ospreys, Stone Curlews, Minivets, Babblers, Hornbills, and falcons.

Tiger Spotting

Lot of the visitors, come for the seeing tigers in Jim Corbett National Park. May to June is very good time to seeing Tigers. More than 130 tigers are in Park according to the authorities people. You have take Jeep Safari and cover lot of area than it will help you seeing the tigers.

Elephant Safari

Elephant Safari is feel the bumping ride as you go up and down on the rough terrain. Elephant Safari is organize two times in a day. Two hour in the morning and 2 hour in the evening. This Safari is very enjoyable and slower than other Safari.

Fishing

Fishing is allowed in Jim Corbett National Park in Mandal, Ramganga, Kosi, and Kothari rivers. But permission is necessary before you go fishing. Stacks are available on hire. Resorts also arrange all type of equipment for fishing and angling trips here. So you can catch fish, and have your own lunch here.

Treks

Walking is not allowed in the park but you can go trekking in the forest reserves around the park. Wear comfortable trekking shoes and cloth’s natural earth colours. Don't disturb the animal and make minimum noise. And the most important of all do not forget your field glasses, in case you don't carry one, you will repent later.

Jeep Safari

A beautiful way to research this huge park is through Jeep Safari. The area is very large so It is not possible to cover the entire area of the park on foot. So you need hire the Jeep and a guide. It is specially for the forest.
